| Hypatia was the daughter of Theon, who was one of the most intellectual people in Alexandria. Theon thaught Hypatia in mathematics, astronomy and astrology, furthermore she was a good speaker and versed in philosophic affairs. Already in young years she exceeded the abilities of her father and Mentors and informed self.
While her day of death is known, her birthday can only be got, most historians prefer the period between 355 - 370 A.D.
Famous for her mathematical knowledge, she developed concepts about conic sections (hyperbolas, parables and ellipses). Furthermore she was the leader of the Neoplatonism school in Alexandria (400 A.D.) and her remarkable mathematical abilities made her to one of the most intelligent women of the antiquity
Hypatia lived at a time in Alexandria where the Christianity the other religions dominated. This led starting from the year 390 A.D., to tensions and tumults. Cyril, a leader under the Christian at that time, spread deadly rumors over her and Hypatia was 415 A.D. attacked on the way at home, undressed and killed. Cyril a enemy of the Roman prefect Oretes tought she was a danger, because Hypatia and Oretes were big friends.
